Reporting to the Director, Global Supply Chain, the Buyer will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the existence of a cost effective material and service supply line that supports the manufacturing facility. The Buyer is tasked with the generation of purchase orders; request quotes; expedite orders; and perform general purchase order management. The Buyer has a solid understanding of purchasing principles within both prototype and high volume manufacturing environments. Thorough and meticulous documentation skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills are integral to this role. The Buyer ensures all demands from our Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system are met thereby ensuring the timely delivery of product.
Education:
Post-secondary 3 Year Business degree/diploma specializing in Materials Management or related field
Registered member of the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC).
Certificate in Purchasing (CPP) sponsored by PMAC or actively pursuing a purchasing designation.
Courses/Seminars supporting materials management and innovations in the profession.
Experience:
Minimum 3 - 5 years direct purchasing experience of materials in a manufacturing environment preferably in an electronics industry.
Proficient user of the MS Office software package (Word, Excel and e-mail system).
Advanced working knowledge of computerized inventory control systems, previous exposure to a Material Resources Planning (MRP/ERP) system, preferably Visual.
Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) and constant effective collaboration are required in dealing with vendors as well as all levels of staff; working closely with Production, Engineering, Quality and the Finance departments.
Professional approach in business dealings as well as strong negotiation skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities in managing inventory.
Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize and organize diversified workload in a fast paced challenging environment.
Familiar with quality standards, logistics and inventory principles and their application to the supplier base and the production environment.
A creative thinker, familiar with modern purchasing methods.
Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail is required to prioritize and manage a variety of tasks in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
Working knowledge of customs and transportation regulations.
Self-motivated and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision independently and within a team.
