An Exciting Opportunity Awaits

We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled Journeyman Power Line Technician to join our dedicated team in Alberta on a full-time basis.

Based in Rocky Mountain House, we are just one hour from Red Deer and two hours from both Calgary and Edmonton. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to enjoy the natural splendor of rural life, while still being within reach of the city.

In this role, you'll construct, maintain and repair overhead and underground electrical power and distribution systems for Rocky REA.

In the event of a power disturbance, failure or storm damage, the Power Line Technician is also responsible for locating the source of the problem and replacing or repairing defective power lines and accessories to ensure the safety of customers, the general public, and field staff.

Key responsibilities and duties include:

* Erect and maintain poles, towers and guy wires
* Install, maintain and repair overhead and underground power lines, cables, insulators, lightning arrestors, switches, transformers and other associated equipment
* Splice, solder and insulate conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution and networks
* Ensure equipment, tools and materials are maintained in operable/safe working order and supply
* Communicate with landowners to address any concerns with work to be performed
* Plan, conduct and participate in inspections
* Investigate fires caused by tree-to-line contacts and prepare recommendations and follow-up plans
* Investigate public line contacts, completing documentation for appropriate external agencies
* Ensure company vehicles are stocked/routinely serviced and equipped in readiness for any emergency
* Ensure shop area is kept in a clean and orderly manner

This is a full-time Monday to Friday role with some flexibility required in the event of emergency situations or downed lines. The ability to work outdoors, at heights and in varying weather conditions is also required.

The Ideal Candidate

To qualify for this role, you'll be a licensed Journeyman Power Line Technician in Alberta or Red Seal Interprovincial equivalent. You will also have two (2) years' experience and the ability to train, mentor and support apprentices and other staff. The ability to interpret wiring diagrams is essential, as is the ability to read maps/GPS, perform mathematical calculations and accurate tabulations.

The successful candidate will also have:

* Familiarity with trucks, aerial lift boom, electrical testing instruments, digger derricks, skid steers, circuit breakers, voltage regulators and two-way radios
* A valid driver's license (class 5 or class 3) and clear driver's abstract
* Occupational Health and Safety training, including WHMIS and First Aid/CPR
