POSITION LOCATION:This position is based in Eastern Ontario, West of Ottawa. We advertise in various locations to raise the visibility of this opportunity for those interested in relocating.

THE OPPORTUNITY:


Our client seeks to engage a Contracts Specialist to be considered as a senior advisor, coach, and leader on contract details and goal achievement impacting procurement teams, project management teams on
contractual issues.

 

The successful candidate will have a legal background with hands on work experience in contract development and expertise in dispute avoidance and resolution.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Review contract structure, contract changes and activities to deliver the profitable contract execution.

 

Lead the formulation, negotiation, legal review and assignment of contracts, subcontracts and change orders.

 

Manage and negotiate significant commercial claims and other legal actions; advise on minor claims or actions.

 

Identify, analyze and mitigate potential commercial risks and liabilities associated with projects by providing expert advice in the area of contract law and application of legal terminology

 

Develop and create strong relationships with support groups, legal, finance and risk management.

 

Development and execution of improvements through processes and practices.

 

Create and assist in promoting best practices that relate to project specific terms and conditions for proposals, tenders and bids.

 

The development and execution of training programs relating to commercial risks and Contract Law.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Honours degree in engineering, finance, law or an MBA.

 

5 to 10 years of experience with contract formulation and negotiation.


Must have knowledge of the principles of ethical purchasing and business practices.

 

Ability to analyze, recommend and initiate changes in process and procedures is required.

 

Strong analytical, business skills and negotiation skills for contract development.

 

In-depth knowledge of commercial and contractual formats applying a strong background in business law.

 

Must be able to work without direct supervision, establishing priorities in meeting conflicting requirement deadlines.

 

Highly evolved communication skills at all levels.

 

Have the ability to work diligently in the reconciliation of mutual objectives of buyer and seller contracting groups along with internal stakeholders.


COMPENSATION:

Salary is commensurate with experience.
