Claims Examiner (Health & Dental)

About the Job

You want flexibility to accommodate your busy life, a sense of belonging, and a chance to grow your career.

Maybe you’re early in your career, and interested in insurance claims. Maybe you’re an experienced claims examiner, ready for a fresh start. Either way, you’ll find what you’re looking for here.

We’re Manion, a Canadian third-party administrator of group benefits. We provide solutions to streamline the benefits process for large carriers and small businesses. Our work makes it possible for more Canadians to live healthy lives.

We’re looking for a new claims examiner who is eager to learn, and looking to join our close-knit team. We hope our search ends now, with you.

Claims Examiner

Your primary goal in this role is to process claims from our members for extended health and dental benefits. If you’re inexperienced in claims, we’ll teach you everything you need to know.

You’ll begin each day with a paper bundle of claims that will require varying degrees of work to process. Once you’ve prioritized your workload, you’ll process the claims. This involves knowing our policies and processes, understanding the services each claim involves, and staying aware of other available resources that will help you evaluate claims. You’ll synthesize all that information, and decide to pay or deny the claim. From there, it’s on to the next claim you’ve prioritized.

There’s plenty of variety in this role. Each claim is different, and requires an engaged, analytical mind to weigh all the factors appropriately. It’s important to get these right, because there are real people connected to every claim.

While our team is collaborative, your success will depend on your ability to function independently. We’re looking for someone who can process claims accurately and efficiently without needing to be micromanaged.

The Right Fit

We’re looking for more than just experience in claims adjudication. We want to find the right fit for our team. You’ll be a perfect fit if you are:

  • Customer-focused – in everything you do, you consider the people we serve.

  • Resourceful - when answers aren’t apparent, or our system isn’t doing what you need, you find the answers and avenues you need.

  • Organized – since every claim is different, timelines and demands vary. You know how to track everything so nothing is mishandled.

  • Adaptable – when your manager rearranges your priorities, you can pivot quickly without losing time or making errors.

  • Detail-oriented - you can pick out errors with ease, and are naturally meticulous. Our standard of 95% accuracy doesn’t worry you one bit.

  • A strong communicator – you’ll be contacting medical and dental provider practices for information on your claims. You can speak and write with clarity.

Working @ Manion

This is a full-time, permanent position working out of our Etobicoke office. You’ll work eight hour shifts on weekdays, with flexibility to choose when you work, between 6am and 5:30pm. There may also be the opportunity to work from home for the right person.

Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience. We also offer competitive benefits, pension and group RRSP plans, and access to Goodlife Fitness at the discounted corporate rate. Our office is surrounded by amenities, and you’ll have access to free parking.

We don’t have a lot of turnover at Manion, and there are good reasons for that. We take care of our people, offering competitive salary and benefits, and our work is meaningful, connecting people to healthier lives. The biggest reason we love coming to work is that we love working together. That’s why finding the right fit is so important to us.

This is a fun, vibrant community to work in every day. We know each other by name, our social committee helps us celebrate achievements and mark life events. Our wellness committee facilitates fitness activities and brings in a nurse on a regular basis.

  • Experience in a customer service or customer-facing role

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

  • Intermediate math skills and data entry skills

  • Any experience in health and dental claims adjudication would be an asset
